VALLI - WAITIKI - PINOT NOIR - 2016

Accolades:
19.5/20 – Raymond Chan
5 stars – Michael Cooper
4.5 stars – Bob Campbell
92/100 – James Suckling

“A cooler and more herbal expression of pinot noir from North Otago’s limestone-studded soils. This has a thread of light red cherry fruit with a tart, lattice-like palate. Acidity zips it up neatly at the finish.” – James Suckling

“The wine flows with very good energy leading to a long, sustained aromatic finish of cherries and berries with fragrant florals. This is a beautifully elegant Pinot Noir built on dark-red cherry and berry fruit with fragrant aromatics and subtle herb and whole bunch nuances on a refined palate.” – Raymond Chan

“Weighty and supple…one of the Waitaki Valley’s most satisfying reds yet. Deep ruby, it is floral, with mouthfilling body, generous, very vibrant cherry, plum, dried herb and spice flavours, fresh acidity and velvet tannins. Still youthful, it is already very open and expressive.” – Michael Cooper

Tasting Note: Bright garnet hue with fresh red fruit aromas of wild strawberry, sweet cherry and raspberry with fragrant potpourri and a touch of cedar. The vibrant fruit and intriguing spice layer wonderfully with the silky fine tannins and creamy texture highlighted by an electric acidity that gives the wine tremendous energy. The warmer growing season resulted in an early harvest for the Waitaki creating a beautifully concentrated wine with a touch more tannin than in cooler years, yet still showcasing all the classic Waitaki features. A wine that is engaging, lithe and fragrant in its youth and will definitely reward cellaring.
